Emerging artist Amelia Ford works within the confines of traditional still life painting–masterfully manipulating oils to capture the shine of an apple, or the folds of bright silk, or light through broken glass–but it’s in the composition of her subjects, rather than the items themselves, where the deeper meaning lies.

Earth Day at Taghum Hall

Taghum Hall’s annual Earth Day event takes off Saturday, April 26 from 10am – 3pm, with live music all day; upcycled, handmade, or homegrown items for sale; a kidzone for earth-friendly crafts and fun activities; bicycle check-ups and simple clothing repair by donation; and all kinds of green community organizations with info and demos. Admission is by donation, and everyone is welcome.

Elizabeth Cunningham presents her poetry collection Look to this Day, Poems for Doris McCarthy in this reading, which is accompanied by a digital presentation of many of the beautiful images reproduced in the book: the paintings of celebrated Canadian landscape painter Doris McCarthy, which served to inspire Elizabeth’s poems, as has the life of McCarthy itself.

Want to learn and practice dancing Argentine Tango? We host a weekly mini-lesson and practica at Christie Lee’s Hall in Fairview. The guided portion from 7:30-8:15 has a different host and topic each week (check our Facebook page for host and topic announcements). We have an open practice after the lesson until 9:30pm. Dancers of all levels are welcome!
