Discover our Fitness and Health Retreat Centres

Nelson and the entire Kootenay Lake area is well known for its abundance of fitness and health retreat centres. From yoga classes to full service fitness and health retreat, drop in or multi-day experiences, you'll find a place to nourish your body and soul here.

Where can I find these retreats?

Mountain Trek, nestled in the forest above Ainsworth Hot Springs, is a premiere fitness and health retreat centre. Ranked by Travel & Leisure as the #1 Health Retreat in North America in 2019, it's also earned top marks from Condé Nast Traveller and SpaFinder. Whether your goal is to lose weight, get in shape, or take your fitness training to the next level, the professional team at Mountain Trek will guide you on your way.

Meditation in studioMany are spiritual in nature, such as the Yasodhara Ashram. The Ashram is a globally recognized centre, offering retreats throughout the year hosted on their stunning property on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake. The recently re-built Temple of Light is a spectacular fusion of nature and spirit, while their on-site organic garden and orchard provides healthy and delicious vegetarian meals for guests.

The Academy of Oriental Sciences is a teaching centre for Chinese medicine in downtown Nelson, while the Heritage Health Centre offers massage, counselling, acupuncture, midwifery, doula and other services under one roof. The centre is a central place to go for alternative health needs.

Many local yogis facilitate workshops and classes throughout the region, while some also take their talents abroad. Vitality Yoga, Shanti Yoga, and Bambu Hot Yoga all offer multiple classes in rejuvenating settings.

There are also retreats that are sanctuaries in their own right. Wing Creek Resort north of Kaslo offers wellness spa services, as does Blaylock Mansion, a lovely heritage inn on Kootenay Lake minutes from Nelson. Just south of Kaslo is The Sentinel, a gorgeous lakeside wellness retreat complete with outdoor hot tub and cedar sauna.
