Spring & Summer Patios

Spring & Summer Patios

From lakeside to downtown, there are plenty of iconic places to enjoy an outdoor meal, picnic to go or a cool beverage. After a day out exploring the wild - whether golfing, mountain biking or anything in between - window shopping or a day at work, head to one of these great patios in Nelson, Kootenay Bay, Crawford Bay, Balfour and Kaslo for fresh air, lots of space, and a tasty bite.

Quench your thirst with a cold brew after a hike in the spring sun and head to Kaslo’s Angry Hen Brewing to enjoy a refreshing drink on their outdoor patio. Teresa's Coffee Shop in Kaslo is the perfect place on Front Street to admire the scenery, and passerby’s. Kaslo Hotel is the place to relax outside with lake and mountain views and of course food to eat-in and take-out.

East Shore

Ladybug Coffee on the East Shore at Kootenay Bay Landing caters to travellers taking the ferry. Indulge in freshly baked goods, specialty teas and coffee, to go or dine on their benches overlooking Kootenay Lake. Red’s Bread and Bakery is the cutest place you’ll find, tucked into the trees next to Kokanee Chalets, where outdoor seating is open all year round. Hub Pub and Eatery don’t disappoint with takeout all year round, and a cozy patio. Kokanee Springs Golf Resort opens the end of April, where their restaurant will be bursting with delicious patio food and beverages.

Spring brings out the opportunity do take-out or hit the patio with lake and ferry views at Dock n’ Duck. Old World Bakery is always a hit for takeout, but only open weekdays at the moment. Gill & Gift has to-go coffee, tea and snacks for that 35 minute cruise across Kootenay Lake.

On the way to or from your outdoor destination, stop by Marzano’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Yes, that includes some of our favourite treats; gelato, pizza, craft beer and wine are all available for take out to enjoy at your top secret picnic spots around town. If you’re heading into Nelson around sunset, stop by Yum Sun for fresh and delicious fancy Vietnamese food on a springtime patio bathed in warm golden sun. Nearby, Red Light Ramen has also made extensive improvements to their alleyway patio with hanging heaters and picnic tables for you to celebrate the arrival of the sun with unique cocktails and warm bowls. Take-out and delivery is a specialty at the Hume Hotel & Spa’s three restaurants (Library Lounge, Mike’s Pub, General Store) - each with their own unique patios. Get ready to see a transformed parking lot outside the General Store very soon!

Independent eateries in Nelson have expanded their patios, ranging from no frills outdoor seating to cozy heated enclosures as we welcome the spring season. Leo’s Pizza & Greek Taverna new heated patio is a real treat! Rel-ish Bistro is offering a couple of 4 seaters on the corner of Baker and Kootenay Street, while a little further down, Cantina and Backroads Brewing Company both have popular patios open year-round serving up specialty tacos and local craft beers. Broken Hill’s patio and takeout is right on Baker Street - big and inviting.

If artisanal cafes are more your thing, Empire Coffee has an inviting atrium patio with big views of Elephant Mountain while Nelson’s iconic Oso Negro Café has long had a colourful garden patio that rivals any in the country. John Ward Fine Coffee continues to offer perhaps the quirkiest patio in the heart of Nelson, a prime people watching spot with fantastic views.

We challenge you to find a better takeout or patio food than burgers and fish n’ chips. Find some of the best at the Adventure Hotel (Louie’s Steakhouse & Lounge and Uptown Sportsbar) and the Main Street Diner’s patio on Baker Street, warmly welcoming those on the hunt for a tasty bite to eat. Nearby Pitchfork Eatery has upgraded their outdoor patio to include natural gas heaters for a cozy date night out offering seasonally fresh plates while providing great views over downtown and looking out to Kootenay Lake. Speaking of that beautiful lake, Port701 at Prestige Lakeside Resort features marinaside dining, offering some of the best views in town. Watch the boats come and go as you indulge in your favourite meal - breakfast, lunch, dinner or happy hour from Sunday - Thursday 2PM to 5PM. Follow your meal up with a special travel deal until April 30th, 2021 - earn one $50 dining voucher and one free night stay for every two nights you stay at the lakeside resort.

Take out and get out in the warm spring and summer sunshine. From coffee shops to bistros, breweries to the lakeside, you’ll find spacious and inviting patios serving up some of the best food and drink in the Nelson and Kootenay Lake region.
