Kaslo and Balfour

Thinking of a quiet escape in nature? Wing Creek Resort, just north of Kaslo, offers luxurious and fully equipped cabins overlooking Kootenay Lake. South of Kaslo, the Sentinel features seven luxury rooms for a personal retreat.

A short drive south and you’ll find Kootenay Lakeview Spa & Resort. It provides a peaceful setting above Balfour Golf Course and Kootenay Lake. Balfour is also the gateway to the Kootenay Lake Ferry, which offers free services crossing the lake. Check the ferry website or drivebc.ca for updated schedules.

East Shore of Kootenay Lake

Kokanee Springs Golf Resort on the East Shore of Kootenay Lake features villas and cottages right on site. Play a round (or a few) at one of the most beautiful courses in Canada. Boccalino, at the ferry landing, has comfortable accommodations and dining.  As you venture into Crawford Bay enjoy the array of artisans and quiet surroundings at nearby Kokanee Chalets, Destiny Bay and Soul's Paradise Resort

Nelson & Area

As the cultural hub of the region, Nelson offers a unique combination of amenities on the doorstep to outdoor adventure. Acclaimed restaurants, cafes and breweries have re-opened, with many featuring cozy patios ideally suited for a spacious outdoor meal or drink.

For prime waterfront views, the Prestige Lakeside Resort in Nelson can’t be beat. The largest hotel in the region offers a wide variety of rooms, including recently renovated contemporary suites. The Hume Hotel & Spa is ideally centred in the heart of downtown Nelson, and lives up to its claim of “antique, chic, boutique” and features multiple eateries on site. Nelson’s rich heritage is also prominent at the Cloudside Hotel in town, while the Adventure Hotel, Prestige Inn, Alpine Inn, and Baker Street Inn all provide comfortable and convenient stays within the compact downtown.

Just outside of Nelson you’ll find a variety of lodging options with their own special character. Combining history with a grand garden estate, the Blaylock Mansion is an attractive retreat only a ten-minute drive from Nelson along the scenic north shore of Kootenay Lake. Families and couples will appreciate the self-contained suites at Kokanee Glacier Resort in a calm setting between Nelson and Kokanee Creek Provincial Park. Those who value privacy, nature and luxury will find Logden Lodge ideal. Located between Nelson and the tiny hamlet of Ymir (with an amazing baker), the lodge provides easy access to the nearby rail trail and recreational opportunities nearby.

Hotels and resorts are following recommended cleaning and sanitization protocols, giving you peace of mind for your needed getaway.

With so many well maintained and character accommodations to choose from, and some of the most beautiful and quiet waterfront routes to drive, a road trip around the Kootenay Lake region is a sure bet for a safe, relaxing and refreshing holiday.

Happy staycationing! Use #findingawesome and you'll be entered to win a Nelson & Kootenay Lake Package Getaway! Prize will be awarded June 25th.
