Skating, Hockey and Curling

The Nelson Kootenay Lake area loves to skate. When you visit Nelson, you’ll be able to see the oldest and longest running arena in Canada, at the Civic Centre. Right next door is a fully modern arena, located in a new community complex, the Nelson and District Community Complex (NDCC). A public skating schedule is available, with public skating happening most days in fall and winter months. Outdoor skating in Nelson at Lion’s Park is maintained by the Lion’s Club. Kaslo’s arena is also available for public skating. For outdoor games of shinny, Mirror Lake is a popular spot.

Curling Rink in Nelson and Kaslo BC

You’ll find curling rinks right downtown in both Nelson and Kaslo. Nelson’s Curling Club has six sheets of ice open from October through March. Kaslo’s curling rink is right next door to its arena, offering multiple sheets of ice.

Hockey in Nelson and Kaslo BC

Check the arena schedules for Nelson and Kaslo hockey. If you’re here when it’s cold enough, both Nelson and Kaslo offer opportunities to play shinny outdoors. In Kaslo, Mirror Lake is a common gathering spot, and in Nelson at the Lions Park outdoor rink you often find a game of pick up.
