The Young Giant

The Young Giant

1923 Lakeside Drive, Nelson, BC

Artist: John Mckinnon (Nelson, BC) Year: 1983

This piece was designed with the same compositional intent as the Family. The idea here was to create a composition that would represent mans stewardship over all species represented by the cat and bird. Again the large feet and hands represent power and stability, and the figure has the proportions of a young person, which I used here to symbolize the reckless immaturity of our species in our relationship with nature. The figure, ignoring what he is holding looks off to the west and dreams of the next conquest, which seems to be out nature.
