The Secret

The Secret

1923 Lakeside Drive, Nelson, BC

Artist: John Mckinnon (Nelson, BC) Year: 1983.

Symbolism plays a significant role here. The old man, concealed heavily clothed depicts a figure hardened by life's long years. He holds his hands closed tightly concealing something, a secret. He looks indifferently off into the distance as the child young, naked and vulnerable is reaching to find out what it is, but as we all know that the experience of life itself is the answer. The old and the young together in the park, is another common scene from my past growing up here. This piece is displayed in a low base near the play area and because of its stature and location, it invites the children to climb and play on it.
