It’s the ending of on era for the Civic, and the beginning of the next!  Don’t miss the chance to be a part of the Civic’s final 35mm screening.

Help us send off the Civic’s 35mm projector in style; on the back of a beautiful cherry red Cadillac convertible.  A print of My American Cousin has been graciously donated from the private vault of local producer, Phil Schmidt and director, Sandy Wilson, who will both be in attendance to mark this event.

Set in the late ’50s, the life of a young Canadian girl (Margaret Langrick) is plagued by boredom until her older California cousin Butch (John Wildman) visits her house. With a healthy dose of James Dean rebelliousness, Butch introduces her to rock & roll and chewing gum, among other things. The film won big at Canada’s 1985 Genie Awards, carting off the Best Picture trophy, as well as Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay. ~ John Bush, Rovi

Bring your Brylcreem.  Pompadours and Duck tails are welcome.

Elephant Mountain Literary Festival
8:00 am – July 14, 2013 @ 5:00 pm

This year’s theme of the Elephant Mountain Literary Festival (EMLF) is Paths to the Page: Writing the Map. Join a host of internationally celebrated authors and a selection of Canadian publishers in Nelson, British Columbia, this July as we discuss how authors and publishers ultimately arrive at what appears on the page. What influences the route a writer uses to the page? What paths in the ever-changing publishing industry affect what writers write and readers read? Join us as we explore the many aspects of the Paths to the Page in our events, panels, and readings.

Our choice of music and other entertainment is soulfully eclectic, and this year will include funk, world music, rock, hip-hop, reggae, blues, bluegrass, folk, jam bands and other acts that are a little harder to define. We also have entertainment and activities for children (who get in free if they are under age 13 and with an adult). It’s a real family festival!

Add a great selection of on-site food, a craft faire, free workshops, roaming jugglers and clowns, and more, and we have the cultural event of the year in our area. Join us for a weekend of great entertainment, a safe place for kids, and a relaxed festival atmosphere.

Camping is available at several locations within a few minutes walk from the festival grounds, and there are other accommodations in the area. For more about the area and accommodation, go to www.starbellyjam.org/
