Duck Lake Dike and Sloughs

Duck Lake Dike and Sloughs

Channel Road, Wynndel, BC

At the south end of Kootenay Lake, the shallow and productive Duck Lake is one of the top birdwatching hotspots in Western Canada and a popular place for anglers fishing for largemouth bass. Located in the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area, a federally protected waterfowl viewing area, the lake is part of a large wetland delta formed where the Kootenay River enters Kootenay Lake. It is one of the few nesting colonies of Western Grebe and the only nesting site for the Forster’s Tern in British Columbia.

Drive north from Hwy 21 to Lower Wynndel Road. After 5 minutes turn left down Duck Lake Road, cross the channel and veer right up Channel Road until you reach Duck Lake.
